I did the same to honor my children’s developng self awareness. Older babies often process a phase called "stranger anxiety."

I knew and trusted the grandparents, but my children during this stage of development, did not have the same familiarity.

Developing self awareness is also something I honored throughout the diaper stage by discouraging anyone from comments or gestures that convey disgust when changing my children’s diapers.
